REPORT ON COLOUR DAY
Working to build confidence of children

At a Learning Resource High School in Gilgit-Baltistan

February 13, 2014                                                                                              On 13th of Feb, 2014, a colour day celebrated in a high school with ECD Students. The main purpose of celebrating the colour day was to boost self-confidence among ECD kids. All the students were very happy with the colourful materials and their favourite dresses. The celebration of the day was started with large circle time where the teachers shared their plans with the students. Colourful papers were provided to students according to their choice. They drew pictures on their own and coloured them. ECD teachers made the classroom and corridor colourful by pasting balloons, flowers, coloured charts and colourful craze papers.

Students’ samples of work were displayed. Students were very cheerful by looking at their work pasted on walls. After ECD students’ lunchtime, a short programme was arranged were some of the school staff, village education committee and community members and a teacher educator attended the programme to encourage teachers and students.  Two students from ECD-IV took the responsibility of masters of ceremony and they performed that very well. Students from ECD I to IV presented their tasks in front of the audience. Students performed various activities such as poems, short skirts, small games etc.

Working to build confidence of children

The following points were reflected by the teachers after the programme;
1.      All the teachers and teacher educators helped and supported in planning and celebrating colour day. This was because of the collaborative culture in the school
2.      Another good point was that students performed their tasks very well and with confidence which indicated that students are building their confidence.
3.     Some parents and notables attended the programme which showed their involvement in school activities.
The learning points for the ECD teachers were;
1.      If children are provided with opportunities to take part in learning activities they can perform many things with confidence.
2.      Involving colleagues and management personnel in such activities ensure successful events
Implication for the ECD teachers as they said was; in future, such programmes may be conducted not only for ECD classes but also for other classes as well. These kinds of celebrations reinforce collaborative and learning culture by using the full potential of students and teachers.
