Total 29-course participants, six males, and 23 females attended the workshop.

Objectives

The objectives of the workshop were:
·         Providing teachers with an opportunity to understand the characteristics of highly effective teachers.
·         Providing an opportunity for the teachers to learn from each others’ experiences
·         Orienting teachers with the ways to lead a satisfying life through personal and professional growth

Process

The session was started with the recitation of some verses from the Holy Quran. The course Facilitator (CF) said welcome to the participants and shared the objectives of the workshop. After that the Course Participants (CPs) were asked to share their understanding of the characteristics of an effective teacher. Concluding and summarizing the responses of CPs, the CF-related that with the characteristics of highly effective teachers identified by various research studies.

A multimedia presentation was delivered by the CF involving CPs while generating discussion on certain points. CPs provided examples from their daily and classroom lives. Questions were asked by CPs to clarify their misconception on various slides of the presentation.

After a short break, another presentation was delivered on the topic “leading a satisfying life through personal and professional growth”. During this presentation CPs asked questions, challenged ideas of each other, shared their own achievements and challenges regarding the application of new learning. CF explained various techniques with the help of examples of satisfying the lives of personal and professional growth.

In the end, one of the CPs from different schools shared their reflections. They said such type of sessions needs to be conducted frequently. They thanked the CF for providing a conducive and lively environment for the workshop.

Achievements

  • 29 teachers were provided with an opportunity to enhance their understanding of characteristics of highly effective teachers and life satisfaction through personal and professional growth
  • CF conducted workshop while providing a lively and conducive environment for learning
·         One of the CPs demanded that such types of workshops need to be conducted for individuals belong to other professions as well

Challenges

  • Skewed level of understanding among the CPs as there were some highly qualified teachers while some had no strong background in secular education
  • Strong traditional beliefs among some of the CPs regarding students, content, teaching methodology and assessment procedure, school and corporal punishment, etc
·         Insufficient budget allocation for workshop

Recommendations

  1.       Facilitators should have equipped with required digital technology in order to make such sessions productive
  2.        Follow up needs to be done after such types of workshops

  1.     The budget needs to be increased for such workshops where CPs could be given transport facilities as well
